Dear friends,
I am just finalizing the arrangements for my party at Blue Gables so this is a gentle reminder that all are most welcome to attend, bring a partner if you wish, and the cost of your refreshments will be covered through my personal expense account.
Several good folk have already contacted me expressing an interest to be included in the Painting commission raffle so if you have yet to do so please let me know asap. The raffle will be held during the course of the party and the winner will receive a commission of a painting to their specification.
They say music be the food of love, well let art be the libation to accompany it! I look forward to seeing you.
God's grace and blessing to us all,
Pierre Flump aka Pierre the Painter

Monsieur Flump,
I would dearly love to attend your gathering and hope that I may have the leisure to do so. Some unforeseen problems regards the purchase of my new house may demand my attention and presence, however, and thus prevent my appearance. Would it be possible to enter your raffle in hopes that I may escape the clutches of my vendor's lawyer and agent in time ?

Mme Bacque,
Yes, of course, I appreciate the demands of legality especially when the sale is to me! Your name shall be entered into the raffle, good luck to you and all those who participate. Naturally there can be only one winner but to those who do not I retain my offer of commissions at extremely generous rates to suit their respective purses.

Monsieur Flump,
I received your invitation but sadly must decline, having taken the decision to advance my boys to the front in search of glory, plunder and to give these damn Spaniards a kicking they won't forget in a hurry. Thus, I'm afraid I will have to bow out of your little soiree but wish you well. Should the action at the front progress well, perhaps on my return I'll be able to commission a portrait of my dashing return to Paris. One word of warning from a well wisher, I'd be careful about associating with certain personages while in Paris. Talk is that the art scene is quite frightfully pretentious and all in a huff about some silly book or such. Wouldn't do to get involved in the brouhaha on your first weeks here!
All the best,
Captain Jacques D'Mestos, Normandy Regiment.

Esteemed Monsieur Flump,
While joining Blue Gables, I discovered that you are hosting an artistic soiree at that establishment the first week of November, and that you are raffling off a commission of a painting. I would very much like to engage you in discussion on the art of painting of which I confess to knowing but little. I know what I like however.
How might I participate in the raffle? I look forward to meeting you at Blue Gables.

Monsieur Bonbeur,
Simply come along to the Party my dear fellow and as you have contacted me to express your interest in the raffle I have now included your name to the others who have already done so.
Art is friend to us all, regardless of our respective skill in that field. I am more than happy to discuss my knowledge on the topic and show you my portfolio.
Best regards,
Pierre Flump aka Pierre the Painter

Monsieur Flump,
What a pleasant surprise it was to win your raffle (though I must say that some members of the crowd it attracted left much to be desired). As chance would have it I was already intending to place a commission with you.
'The Workman is Worthy of His Hire' as they say, however, and though I am grateful for your generosity I must insist upon reimbursing you for your work at the going rate as your first paying client.
I too was somewhat surprised by the Mole's unfounded allegations regards the raffle. However could purchasing a house from me possibly put you under any sort of obligation ? Perhaps we might discuss this matter further at the wake I shall be hosting shortly?
Kindest Regards,
Helen Bacque
