Breaking News: Guiseppi Spaghetti found dead in cell
Guiseppi Spaghetti, better known as the duelling doctor, has been found dead in his gaol cell. The Commissioner of Public Safety has declared an official The disgraced doctor was awaiting trial for theft, but it seems the thought of facing Guardsman de Miremont on the duelling field was too much for his courage to take.
The Commissioner of Public Safety would like it known that the rumours that the Paris Guard had made a request to take personal responsibility for "guarding that pasta eating ponce" are entirely groundless and those caught spreading them will be severely punished.

The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Ah, somber September. A month to remember those we have lost and celebrate their glories.
For some a moment for solitary reflection. Both Father Robin and Guardsman L'Blancheur were spotted in the Frog and Peach, lost in their own thoughts and both failing to notice the other's presence.
But for others, it was a time for community.
Sieur Laurent's memorial party was perhaps more sparsely attended than one might have assumed would be the case with the newly entitled. But both Father de la Bassée and Jacques D'Mestos (with the company of the lovely Scotswoman Angnes) were there to share their memories of the fallen. Rather shockingly, Sieur Laurent allowed their attentions despite their lowly status!
Of course, the big memorial was that held by Lieutenant de la Azur. (As King's Executioner, one assumes the good gentleman is rather familiar with death). It was something of a surprise to see Mademoiselle Helen on his arm, rather than Baroness Genevieve. Perhaps an act of charity? Or perhaps Ms. Bacque is willing to offer favours a more noble lady would not consider? No expense had been spared (well, apart from the cost of drinks which Lieutenant de la Azur gallantly failed to pay for) with the Canon of Paris hosting a memorial service before the wake.
Poor Captain de La Azur spent much of his time politely ignoring the attentions of Captain D'Mestos and Father de la Bassée, who seemed to be trying to impress him to no avail.
Quintin Aguille perhaps need to learn that "does anyone know of any trading expeditions" is not generally considered suitable conversation for a wake. Poor Johi didn't quite know where to look!
Father Dieudonné Lachapelle seemed in rather a foul mood for reasons unknown. His lack of alcohol can't have helped matters. Although of course the church frowns on drunkenness and Father de la Bassée also choose to abstain. Father Robin did not abstain.
Suprisingly, Mademoiselle Helen also choose not to drink. Why would a gentlewoman be abstaining from alcohol? I shall leave that question for you to ponder dear reader.

A Romantic Interlude
By Yvonne de Villepin
It is September and the trees are outside my window are in glorious autumn colours! It is so romantic! Baroness Geneieve seems to be recovering well from her mourning as she was sighted this month in the company of Lieutant de la Azur. This is a truly wonderous turn of events as I was certain the dear lady would wither with sorrow at the loss of her love! Dear M'elle Angnes was cited twice in the company of Jacques D'Mestos. Could love be in the air for this pair? I do suspect so! I will merely mention to Guardsman D'Blancheur that, as a man of the Cardinal perhaps he might want to consider spending his money somewhere other than the Bawdyhouse. Just a little thought dear. As for my darling M'elle. Eloise, perhaps turning down the proposal of a newly titled Chevalier may have been a little hasty? And as for Monsieur Auguille perhaps M'elle. Johi would appreciate more attention? Love is, after all, far more important than your 'trading expeditions'. Perhaps take a leaf out of Ensign Bellgarde's book? He took Ml. Johi to a Royal Ball! Obviously, you can't quite manage that but it's still a good lesson dear.

In Memoriam Aurèle Delecroix by Celeste Lunderburg
Alas! My dear sweet Aurie is no longer with us. I am heartbroken. But I must remember him. He always loved my poetry, so I know this is what he'd have wanted.
Aurie, you were all my world But now all that has come unfurled For you are now all dead and gone And I sit here all forlorn
Crying myself gently to sleep I wish I'd never learnt to weep A tale to the world I must tell Of the tragic death of brave soldier Aurèle

Court Circular
A heavy social month at the Louvre, with two weeks being given up to a Royal Ball.
Jean-Pierre Laurent was recognised for his bravery at the front, being raised to the nobility as a Chevalier.
His companion Eloise LeBeau made a strong impression at court, catching the attention of several notable members of the Royal household.
Ensign Bellgarde of the King's Musketeers was also present and many attendees were heard to comment on his grace and poise.

An Ecumenical Matter
By Bishop Henry Defour
It appears that Father Dieudonné has yet to take note that good things come to he who waits. He has, once again, applied for the position of Abbe. And has once again been turned down. Perhaps he should consider praying on the virtue of of duty.
The good people of Paris should take note and learn from the example of Captain D'Mestos and his confederate Angnes as the pair were seen attending numerous church services throughout the month, including Father Dieudonné's sermon on the support given to us by the grace of God and Father Adam's stirring explanation of the importance of good Citizenship to the Almighty.
It was heartwarming in the sight of the Lord to see new priest Father Adam hold a service on the Good of Government and the Evil of Chaos attended by Father Francois who was moved to praise the piety displayed by Father Adam. It is glorious to see two priests of different orders coming together in the greater glory of the Lord.
God bless.

Military Tribunal Throws Out All Charges
It took a military tribunal less than 20 minutes to find that the Commander of the Army and the 1st Division Commander had no case to answer over the failure of the Summer Campaign. A spokesman for the army commander stated that it was farcial that a case had been brought because of the incompetence of the lower ranks.

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
I have been told I have nothing to say about that "tribunal". All I'll observe is that in my day officers took responsibiity for their decisions.
Congratulations of a sort to Jacques D'Mestos who is now a Captain in the Normandy Regiment. Good to see a lad show some pride in where he was born. I wish you a long and living career.
Fighting went poorly at the Spanish Frontier with the enemy managing to advance further into our territory. The Picardy Musketeers took the brunt of the fighting, with the enemy smashing hard into their defensive line. However, the Frontier Regiment did much better, with the help of the 3rd Company of the Languedoc Regiment. They managed to take the fight to the enemy, regaining at least some of the lost ground. Under the command of Major Marsaud the 3rd Company showed great courage, sending the Spanish scattering.
Mentions in Dispatches: Jean Paul Marsaud
The results from Flanders were even worse. Our field operations failed with the enemy running rampant. Even the RNHB were only just able to survive.
Deaths Aurele Delexcroix
Lorraine saw no action, with troops remaining in barracks with the occasional patrol. However, it seems the natives are getting restless and the Adjutant General has announced that the forces stationed there need to be increased accordingly.
Our troops at Savoy were ambushed in a cowardly attack. We will be sending more troops there in October to show them France won't be trifled with!
Next Month's Deployments
Spanish Border - HL 5 (Guerilla War), Defense Flanders - HL 6 (Skirmishing), Defense Lorraine HL 3 (On Alert), Field Savoy HL 4 (Raiding), Defense

News From the Ivory Tower
By Professor Blanchent
This month the Royal Academy of Science admitted my boyish Voix colleague, Docteur Armand Livarot, as a Fellow on the strength of a tolerably satisfactory treatise entitled A New Science of Telegraphy. Perhaps strangely for a Medical Man the good Docteur took Military Communications as his subject - a subject close the heart of the Curator of the King's Library who naturally voiced his enthusiastic support.
Docteur Livarot has been admitted into the Royal Academy just in time to attend the annual Address and Reception to be hosted at the Fleur de Lys in the final week of October.
Medical Matters
by Docteur Armand Livarot, FRAS
The Medical Profession has been rocked once more this month following the unexplained death, whilst in the custody of the Paris Guard, of Docteur Guiseppe Spaghetti. The official verdict is that the flamboyant and popular 'Duelling Doctor' hanged himself. The widespread rumours that the Doctor paid to have Monsieur Demerat assassinated before he could attend their scheduled duel, however, and the fact that the Sergeant of the Paris Guard who was responsible for his custody is the brother of Monsieur Demerat's widow, cast considerable doubt on this.
No lesser a personage than His Majesty's Personal Physician has demanded a full enquiry.
