A Distraught Priest...
1st Voice: Why Father Dominic! Whatever is the matter? Come in...come in...
2nd voice: You seem busy. I'm not disturbing you am I ?
1st Voice: No, nothing I'm working on is urgent. The Voix de Paris has asked for a medical reaction to the allegations against Docteur Spaghetti and I've started work on a possible treatise for the Royal Academy. Both can wait half an hour. Now, whatever is the matter...?
2nd Voice: I still can't believe it, but none of the Archbishops has given me permission to go an expedition to preach the Word of God overseas. None of them !!
1st Voice: Calm yourself Dominic, Here, have a glass of wine. I'm sure that most priests are refused where their first requests are concerned. Their Graces probably wish to be sure of the strength of your vocation and determination.
2nd Voice: You think so...?
1st Voice: I'm sure of it! Apply to them all again this month to show them that your previous applications were not submitted on a mere whim but from an overriding conviction. I'm sure you'll be successful eventually.
2nd Voice: But what if I'm not? Am I to be stuck at St.Pere playing second fiddle to some pimply Dominican boy for the rest of my life?
1st Voice: Well, there is another way to come to notice...
2nd Voice: How...?
1st Voice: Become the Chaplain of an active regiment and get mentioned for bravery at the front. I believe that some extra regiments will be needed over the Autumn...
2nd Voice: Yes! Perhaps that's it! If I fail to secure permission to go on an expedition this month I'll give it careful consideration. Thanks again, My Friend. I'll disturb you no longer...I have some further letters to write...
