The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Ah, that was a July to remember!
While some of our brave young men were off at the Front, others used the opportunity to gallivant and frolic in the sun!
The month started with a bang, as Monsieur Spaghetti celebrated his duelling 'success' at his new club The Blue Gables. Also in attendance were Father Robin and Helen Bacque, both fussing round Monsieur Spaghetti and laughing loudly at all of his undoubtedly hilarious witticisms.
Elsewhere that week, the merchant Quintin Aiguille spent the proceeds of vulgar commerce at Red Phillips, attending there in the company of Johi Bachelet. Mademoiselle rather outshone her rather dull beau, entertaining the club with her beauty and charm. Perhaps Quintin would be willing to share his secret with some of our more unfortunate gentlemen?
Speaking of Monsieur Spaghetti he certainly knows how to make an impression. Attending his new club again in the second week, it seems that his boasting of his duelling prowess became a bit much for some of the other club members. Did they deal with this by demanding to settle the matter in an honourable manner? Of course not. Monsieur Spaghetti's fiery temperament got the better of him and he threw a glass at one of his main taunters. At this stage, a full scale brawl broke out. Leading to the brawlers spending the week after in the rather less palatable environs of the Paris Gaol. Still, according to a spokesman for the Blue Gables "no action will be taken, we do of course recognise that the fine gentlemen of Paris naturally have passionate natures and this is merely part of doing business". A spokesman for the Paris Guard described Monsieur Spaghetti as "a knobhead".
Still, at least Monsieur Spaghetti's enforced absence from the clubbing scene meant he avoided Father Lachapelle who was also at Blue Gables, this time in the third week. The birds tell me that our dear Father was in an absolutely foul mood, drinking on his own and glowering at anyone who so much looked in his direction.
A far better time was had by our new arrival Jacques D'Mestos, who attended Red Phillips with his new companion Angnes Calvert. Never one to miss a drink (especially if someone else is paying), Father Robin showed up and happily demonstrated the best way to interpret 1 Timothy 5:23 to the happy couple.
What a very marvellous month. Best we've had this year I think. You've certainly set the bar high for when our brave soldiers return. And if Father Robin knows about anything, it's bars.
