A related question:
What are the game effects of a Gaol sentence?
What are the game effects of a Gaol sentence?
Upon conviction and jailing:
- All appointments are lost
- The mistress (if any) may leave you: roll as if courting her (no cost, but neither can you modify it by paying more). If you fail, she leaves you.
- If the sentence comes from a military cause, demoted on a 7+. If so, roll again, allowing for several ranks demotion, up to private. If demoted to private, cast off the regiment on 10+.
While jailed:
- Each month roll for disease (as if war prisoner)
- -2 SP each month (not cumulative)
- No conspicuous consume allowed
- No female company allowed (but penalty halved if you keep you mistress, as she’s assumed to visit you)
- Other SP sources are kept, and no support expenses are needed
After release, and until attuned:
- -1 to join any Regiment
- -1 to all appointments (-2 if he the appointment allows corruption)
- -1 to promotions if I n the military
- -1 to court a mistress
- -1 to be titled
The character attunes himself (and so losses the DMs above) when achieves the criteria for considered for a title (except SL), despite if he obtains it or not.
Example:
Pierre (SL8, captain and Colonel adjoutant in the King Musketeers and member of the Blue Gables club) is sent to Gaol for 3 months after embelezzing money from his company.
He immediately losses his appointment, and has to roll for his mistress (SL11) as if courting her. As she’s 3 SLs above, he must roll 4+. A 5 is rolled and she does not leave him. He rolls for demotion, rolling a 8, so he’s demoted to Subaltern and rolls a 5, so he’s not demoted any more.
1st month:
He rolls a 4 for disease, so he does not fall ill
He collects 7 SPs as KM subaltern, 4 for the club and 3 for the mistress, so a total of 11 SPs.
He losses 2 SPs for being jailed and 2 for lack of female company (as his kept his mistress, he halves the penalty)
So he collects a total of 11 SPs, keeping his SL
2nd month:
He rolls a 3 for disease, so he does not fall ill
He collects 7 SPs as KM subaltern, 4 for the club and 3 for his mistress, so a total of 14 SPs.
He losses 2 SPs for being jailed and 2 for lack of female company (as his kept his mistress, he halves the penalty)
So, he collects 10 SPs, keeping his SL
3rd month:
He rolls a 6 for disease, so he does not fall ill
He collects 7 SPs as KM subaltern, 4 for the club and 3 for his mistress, so a total of 14 SPs.
He losses 2 SPs for being jailed and 3 for lack of female company (as his kept his mistress, he halves the penalty)
So, he collects 9 SPs, keeping his SL
Now let’s imagine his mistress leaves him:
1st month:
He rolls a 4 for disease, so he does not fall ill
He collects 7 SPs as KM subaltern and 4 for the club, so a total of 11 SPs.
He losses 2 SPs for being jailed and 2 for lack of female company (as his kept his mistress, he halves the penalty)
So he collects a total of 7 SPs, Lowering SL to 7. His Subaltern rank becomes brevet, as he has not the SL to keep it
2nd month:
He rolls a 3 for disease, so he does not fall ill
He collects 7 SPs as KM subaltern and 4 for the club, so a total of 11 SPs.
He losses 2 SPs for being jailed and 4 for lack of female company (as his kept his mistress, he halves the penalty)
So he collects a total of 5 SPs, Lowering SL to 6. His Subaltern rank becomes brevet, as he has not the SL to keep it (alternatively he’s demoted to private)
3rd month:
He rolls a 5 for disease, so he does not fall ill
He collects 7 SPs as KM subaltern and 4 for the club, so a total of 11 SPs.
He losses 2 SPs for being jailed and 6 for lack of female company (as his kept his mistress, he halves the penalty)
So he collects a total of 3 SPs, Lowering SL to 5. He now has no SL to keep even private rank, so he is either cast off the Regiment or has a year to recover SL 6 (as if he was brevet, GM to decide, unless I skipped this part of the rules). He’s also expelled from the club, no longer meeting the requirements.
On the 4th month, he’s released, but he will keep his penalties until he achieves the criteria for a title ,despite his SL being too low for it (so, until he either receives 3 mentions in a season, he rolls a result of 1 while commanding a Battalion, probably in the Frontier Regiments after some promotions, etc...)
As you can see, those rules may be quite hard (mostly if you lose your mistress too). Feel free to take them as they are, part of them, or outright reject them.
