The Social Whirlwind by Le Mole
Hello, my lovelies. How nice it is to see some new gentlemen in Paris, all fresh faced and enthusiastic. Will they rise like the cream or drop like a stone?
Perhaps they should go to one of Father Robin's parties? You know the ones. Father Robin holds them and nobody else turns up. (Some of you may remember this tragedy from your childhood).
But this, I am glad to say, was the May of parties and social occasions! I can barely express my excitement.
It was certainly bold of Daniel Dompteur to hold a party in the third week with the sole purpose of welcoming Daniel Dompteur to Paris. But it was a confidence that paid off, with the great and the good attending, along with Monsieur Spaghetti. Seen holding court were Jean-Paul Marsaud , Jean-Pierre Laurent, Curate Lachapelle, Germain de Miremont and Emmelina and the aforementioned Monsieur Spaghetti.
The following week's wake for Captain Piquet was naturally something of a more sombre affair, with the guests suitably attired in black. In fact, exactly the same people were in attendance, plus the bereaved Baroness Genevieve. I'm sure that this was mere coincidence and they weren't using a tragedy as an excuse for more drinking. Well, Captain Laurent wasn't. Oddly, he and Eloise stayed sober. Sobriety is for children and Englishmen, darlings. In the spirit of Captain Piquet everyone had to pay their own carousing costs. I was mostly impressed that certain gentlemen had the class not to openly try and court the Baroness at the wake of her late beau.
A good month. More next time please!

A Romantic Interlude
Comtess Yvonne De Villepin
As spring sets into its’ floral ways, love is most certainly in the air. M. de Miremont and dear Emmelina are going strong! This brings such joy to my old romantic’s heart, to see such lovebirds out and about in gay Paris! Ah l’amour! As he found the accomplishment of gaining a military commission at long last – something Emmelina had confided to me concerned her greatly as it mattered greatly to her dear love, he did find himself with less time to lavish upon her. He took Emmelina to both partied he attended, however. This makes four months they have been together, and such togetherness! Will he take dear Emmelina to wife, I wonder, and hope! M Laurent and sweet Eloise have been together no less wonderfully! In the first week, he took her to church, and in the third and fourth weeks, she accompanied him to parties. Do I hear wedding bells? How sublime! The beautiful M’elle Acelina Bissonette has been sighted in the company of M. Lannes for most of the month, too! Such a charming romance there too! In the third week, she went to church with him, and in the fourth week, accompanied him to the club Red Phillip’s, where I am sure she had a wonderful time! As for M’elle Bacque, her heart is clearly a fickle one, as she went to the club Hunters in the company of M. Dompteur in the second week, then in the fourth, spent some time in the company of a lowly typesetter, M. Bertillion. Time can only tell if she will find love in Paris…

Reports from the Front by General Georges Boulle (rtd.)
In my career in the Army, young gentlemen, I have seen many a wonder. I've travelled this old world of ours from Barnsley to Peru. I've had sunstroke in the arctic and a swim in Timbuktu. I've seen unicorns in Burma and a yeti in Nepal. And I've danced with ten foot pygmies in a Montezuma hall. But there are some things that can surprise even me. Things that I thought I'd never see before my death.
This month, gentlemen, Monsieur de Miremont ceased to be a civilian. Congratulations to Private de Miremont on his acceptance into the Cardinal's Guard. Perhaps going for trooper this month was a bit much though. Quit while you're ahead, lad. And while you're there, maybe give some of your wisdom to Gabriel Lannes. I understand that his application to the Royal Marines was the subject of much chortling in the ranks.
A grudging bit of praise for Daniel Dompteur. Yes, he may be a toff who bought his commmission rather than fighting for it. But at least he's got himself into with the lads of the 13th Fusiliers, a fine bunch of boys.
Not much news from the Front, as both sides dug in before the Summer campaign. Congratulations are due to Captain Jardin who managed to capture an enemy raiding party, not only earning a mention in dispatches but relieving them of their illgotten gains.
Mentions in Dispatches: Captain Jardin Deaths: None!

An Ecumenical Matter
Bishop Henry Defour
This month was worryingly quiet. Very few of the people of Paris were saved, and it is mildly distressing. As though the good Christian ladies and gentlemen have other things to do than praising God, as unthinkable as that might be.
In the first week, Curate Lachapelle conducted an important sermon into the depravity of the bawdyhouses of Paris; a sage reminder that gentlemen using such places place their very souls in peril. Sadly, nobody of note was in attendance.
M. Laurent attended services in the first and second weeks, accompanied by his lady. He did not, however, attend the service of either of the newly promoted Curates. Likewise, M. Lannes and M’elle Bisonette attended services in the third week, but not those of our recently promoted Curates.
Lastly, it behoves me to mention the charitable activities of Curate Robin, who loaned 200 livres to M’elle Bacque. It is good to see our local clergy taking their responsibility to help those less fortunate seriously, and to see the shylocks lose out on the chance to indebt another worthy Parisian.
May God’s Grace go with you for the next month. God bless you, everyone.

Of Monetary Matters by Johannotus Delafosse
Paris was excited to see the launch of Le Manteau de Padarn, a clothing store aimed at gentlemen of respectable standing.
By all accounts the first month was a success, with the store turning a small profit. Of particular note was Monsieur Spaghetti, who was seen some of the shop's finest fashionable outfits.
The launch party was less of a success. While Mademoiselle Bacque briefly turned up to open the store, it seems the gentlemen of Paris prefer to send servants out to do their shopping leaving the shopkeeper Monsieur Aiguille with rather a lot of uneaten refreshments to dispose of.
Still, Le Manteau de Padarn seems certain to become a regular habitat for Paris' more fashionable gentlemen.
Annoucement from the Chancellor
After the success of our expedition to Holland I shall be launching a new venture, this time focusing on England. Investors welcome.
OOC: It is possible to invest as a pre monthly action even if at the front.
