As Shylock debts draw dangerously near, many of you will be considered going to the front. All but one of you are likely to be doing so as part of a frontier regiment if you do so. Some notes.
The Royal North Highland Border Regiment
This is a unique elite Frontier regiment. If you're eligible to join, doing so is likely to increase your survivability chances.
However, it has pretty serious entry requirements. To join as a Private requires an Endurance of 110 and Rapier Expertise of at least 9.
To volunteer with the RNHB as an officer requires you to meet the Private requirements, to not have a Military Ability of 1 and to have recieved at least one merit (non bought) officer promotion or Mention in Dispatches.
So while highly recommended for those who can, the RNHB simply isn't an option for most of you.
Go for the full campaign or not?
Generally, this is well worth doing, even if you don't have to (and the earliest anyone's debts are due is July so everyone has the option of staying in France for June if they wish).
But there are mechanical benefits for fighting the full campaign which outweigh having a single month in France if you don't have very specific things you want to be doing.
This especially applies to those with current Mentions in Dispatches. If you return from the front, even for a month, the MID countdown starts and doesn't reset if you return to the Front. So to get the full benefit you want to only return when you'll be in Paris for 3 months.
The Two Resolution Systems
After some discussion with people there will be two resolution systems to choose from this Summer Campaign. This is useful because I've heard strong arguments from people on both sides. (Generally "this gives more opportunity" versus "this is going to anniliate people".
If you don't let me know otherwise you will automatically use the more dangerous version!
The two to choose from are:
Death or Glory!
Different battle result and monthly rolls for everything for each month you're on Campaign. A character who campaigns the entire season, and who succeeds in their plunder roll during
either of the second or third months, will receive a bonus roll on the plunder table.
This obviously gives you a much better chance of reward. It also gives you a much, much higher chance of death. (I haven't crunched the numbers properly, but my instinct says that if you go with this system assume that's you're likely to die at the front. Even with a good battle result there's the chance of a double 6. And a result of 5 or 6 is probably lethal).
The Long Game
One roll for everything. If you're at the front for the entire season you get an extra roll for Plunder and MiDs but not Promotion or Death.
This makes it much more likely you'll survive, but you won't progress anywhere near as quickly if you're lucky.
